My 2024 Virginia / Blue Ridge Parkway Adventure

This is a retrospective blog of my seven-week exploration of Virginia along with a journey through the Shenandoah National Park and on down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Cherokee, North Carolina. 'Retrospective' means simply that it wasn't written during the trip, but is being written after-the-fact, a little over a year later. Baaswell Sheep accompanied me and is writing the blog in the way he's done my later blogs, since he's so good with the color commentary. Unfortunately, since I didn't plan for this blog back when I was doing the trip, my pictures are limited to the major attractions, but I'll try to make those galleries a little larger than I do in my later blogs.

Select/click any image to see it at double (or more) the current size. While viewing a large image, use the left and right arrow keys to view other images on this page. Day Forty-Six: Dillsboro and Sylva

We took some time today to go about twenty miles east to Dillsboro, which is a little arts and crafts community. We looked around and bought a few small items, then drove over to see what Sylva looked like, as we'd never been over there before. Turns out, it's barely two miles from Dillsboro, and consists of about three blocks of classic old business fronts, but as we got there a little after five o'clock, we didn't get to go into anything. We wound up having dinner at a somewhat lackluster Zaxby's that was housed in what looked like an old Hardee's building, where nobody could get the cash register signed-in for nearly ten minutes. But we finally got some food. Hopefully we'll get back to Sylva on another trip and see the shops, but we'll definitely steer clear of that Zaxby's. Unfortunately, we didn't take any pictures today, as my companion's cell phone has been running low on memory. I've been nagging at him to get some of the pictures off of it, but he says it's incredibly difficult to figure out what to delete. I'll admit, we have a lot of great pictures from this trip, but how can we document our last few days if he doesn't free up some more space?
