My 2024 Virginia / Blue Ridge Parkway Adventure

This is a retrospective blog of my seven-week exploration of Virginia along with a journey through the Shenandoah National Park and on down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Cherokee, North Carolina. 'Retrospective' means simply that it wasn't written during the trip, but is being written in hindsight a little over a year later. Baaswell Sheep accompanied me and is writing the blog in the way he's done my later blogs, since he's so good with the color commentary. Unfortunately, since I didn't plan for this blog back them, my pictures are limited to the major attractions, but I'll try to make those galleries a little bigger than I do in my later blogs.

Day Four: Damascus

Damascus, VA

Another slow day, especially given that my companion was a bit sore after that seven mile hike on the Appalachian Trail yesterday. We spent the morning in our room again and had lunch there, then went back to the library for another day of remote work. We did get a few pictures around the town, from which I've pulled four nice candid shots of life and architecture in this small town.

Virginia Creeper Trail, Damascus, VA

Once the workday was over, we returned to the inn and took a leisurely walk on the Virginia Creeper Trail heading east. The Appalachian actually follows this same path up to the eastern edge of town, then ascends into the next ridge of mountains. We went that far, took a look at the stairs, then turned around and came back to the inn. It was a nice walk overall, though the bugs were in full swarm today.

Damascus Diner, Damascus, VA

Wanting to try something local other than Subway, we got over to the Damascus Diner for dinner and had a nice country style fried chicken breast with a side salad and apple cobbler.

Laurel Creek, Damascus, VA

Returned to the creekfront park after dinner for some more R&R hanging out with the local waterfowl.
