My 2024 Virginia / Blue Ridge Parkway Adventure

This is a retrospective blog of my seven-week exploration of Virginia along with a journey through the Shenandoah National Park and on down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Cherokee, North Carolina. 'Retrospective' means simply that it wasn't written during the trip, but is being written in hindsight a little over a year later. Baaswell Sheep accompanied me and is writing the blog in the way he's done my later blogs, since he's so good with the color commentary. Unfortunately, since I didn't plan for this blog back them, my pictures are limited to the major attractions, but I'll try to make those galleries a little bigger than I do in my later blogs.

Day Twenty-Six: Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg, Williamsburg, VA

The temperatures dropped back to the mid-nineties, which strangely enough was very much a relief after being in the low hundreds yesterday. My companion was continuing to do his remote work, but we got out for longer periods of time today. We started off visiting the Kings Arms Tavern for lunch. Normally, we'd have gotten such a lunch at the Chowning's Tavern, but it was closed this summer for historic restoration, so they were serving the Chowning's lunch menu at the Kings Arms (normally just a dinner restaurant). We got an onion pye, which was rather good, and paired it with a local Chowning's root beer. After that, we set out to see the remainder of Williamsburg that we wanted to see, as this was our last day in Williamsburg. A selection of pictures from today is provided below.

Armoas World, Williamsburg, VA

Wanting a decent but light dinner we returned to Aromas World, and this time we shared a hummus wrap and a root beer, both of which were really good. We then slipped over to a Baskin Robins and got an ice cream cone with a coupon provided to us as a bonus for staying in one of the tavern house rooms. A nice way to end our Williamsburg journey, though we still have a little more of the 1700s to explore tomorrow when we visit Yorktown, and then we return to the modern world as we head out to Hampton Roads and the Chesapeake Bay.
